Welcome to the AC SAF Ozone Validation & Quality Assessment Website!
In the framework of EUMETSAT’s AC-SAF, the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics of the the Aristotle Iniversity of Thessaloniki (AUTH) hosts the validation and Quality Assessment (QA) activities for GOME-2 and IASI ozone products on METOP platforms. This website gathers the latest results of validation and QA for Metop-A, Metop-B and Metop-C total ozone and ozone profiles products. AUTH has developed the validation service for total ozone. The ground based total ozone data used as reference are available from the World Ozone and Ultraviolet Radiation Data Center (WOUDC), of the World Meteorological Organization, (WMO), Global Atmosphere Watch, (GAW), and from the World Ozone Mapping Centre hosted at AUTH. The Koninklijk Meteorologisch Instituut (KMI) in Belgium and the Meteorological Observatory Hohenpeissenberg of the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) have developed ozone profile validation facilities, aiming to the operational validation of the GOME-2 and IASI data on board the METOP platforms. The facilities are based on detailed comparisons of satellite ozone profiles with quality approved ground based measurements from lidars, balloon sondes and microwave radiometers.
